Planning Family Pictures With What You Already Have
Houston Photographer
To me, trying to figure out what to wear is the hardest part of planning any session. It can be overwhelming and sometimes even start to add up to be expensive. I would never ask any family to plan on purchasing a new outfit for everyone or suggest they find something pricey to wear. I also know there is not always time to plan out clothing in advance— and that is ok. That’s why I am here to help with outfits and even help you pull something together from your closet.
You can reuse something, add layers to change up the look or even plan to purchase a few key pieces. It’s super simple!
How To Plan Outfits:
-
Focus on neutrals
Mama found neutral items of clothing with simple designs (no patterns, no logos) for her children. It paid off, because everything coordinated but didn’t match. -
A pop of color
it can be hard to find something for mom to wear. I love a flowing skirt or an awesome maxi dress, but that just isn’t her jam. So we went with an outfit that made her feel comfortable but added a special pop of color to their pictures, and some texture. For her daughter, she brought in the most color and it helped to pull everything together. -
Vision and plan
After going through her closets, she laid out all the choices so she could visually see them. It helps to bring to life what it will look like when you can see it all together. Try a large floor area or even just your bed. If something doesn’t look right, try changing out the pants, or adding a layer to help connect the pieces.
It’s fun to go out and buy new outfits (mama, if you can treat yourself to something that makes you feel pretty- get your outfit together first!), but you don’t have to!
