What Is A Lifestyle Newborn Session

Few things in this world are as intimate as coming into someone’s home to photograph their family. Bottles already in the sink, burp cloths draped over the couch and diapers always on hand. Your world has changed in big ways!

When I come in, the first two spaces I like to look at are the primary bedroom and the nursery. When I see the nursery, I think about all the work that went into creating a space for the tiny human they have been anticipating. Every detail is important….prayers whispered into the corners of the baby’s room, each book selected with purpose, linens washed and waiting for tiny human that will lay upon them…finally, they are here and safe in your arms.

What are some things you can expect during your lifestyle newborn session?

• No Posing- I may wrap your baby to help keep them soothed and calm, but the focus is on your relationship with your family rather than specific poses you are in. I use a technique called “baby-led posing” and let your baby tell me how they are most comfortable.

• No Props- I am not a “prop” photographer. I will not bring a lighting kit, beanbag set up or baskets to put your baby in. If you ahem special family heirlooms, outfits you selected for your child or other special items, those are always used so long as your baby tolerates them. My goal at the end of the day is to capture you and the the newness of bringing a baby home.

• Natural Light- the smallest amount is all I need. We will hang out near windows and I will probably come through and open all your blinds. Trust me- it’s worth it!

• Prep- all ANP clients will have access not only to styling tools to help make sure you look amazing, but a guide that helps you prepare your home and baby prior to the session.

• Relationships- Your lifestyle session will absolutely be directed. I won’t leave you hanging wondering where to put your hands, how to hold your baby or if something looks alright. We will spend a lot of time snuggling on your bed, swaying and rocking your baby, and playing with kids if you have other children.

Lifestyle isn’t for everyone and that is ok! No matter what style of photos you are hoping to have- this time is so fleeting and precious. Make sure you are a good fit with your photographer and your visions align.
