Every session is different and every newborn is their own little person. That is what I love about lifestyle newborn photos: they are baby-led and allow your family the space to be who they are.
Some babies like to be swaddled, some want their arms free. Some families free-range, some families have schedules set up from day one.
However your family operates, I’m here to help bring your story to life and capture memories that are real and specific to you. Here are some of my biggest tips to help you get ready for your session.
How to prepare for your in-home newborn session
-
Try to keep baby awake for a while before your session time. This is super important to helping baby get to sleep and stay settled throughout your session.
-
Wait to feed the baby until I arrive for your session. I never deduct time from your session to feed or pause to feed. Your baby is in charge, and we will listen to them.
-
Don’t worry about baby acne or little scratches. While I do minor retouching to smooth skin and remove blemishes, I do not complete smooth over your baby’s natural texture. Embrace that peely, fresh newborn skin!
-
Make sure diapers are loose and tight fitting socks are removed to avoid lines on skin.
-
Plan to declutter spaces like the family room, primary bedroom and nursery.
-
One last thing….No matter what your baby does, please know that I am always relaxed. I do this all the time and have seen everything. This session is supposed to be a special experience for you and I don’t want you stressed if the baby starts to cry. I want you to enjoy the experience of your session and this special bonding moment for your family.
