The Woodlands Family Photography
Kids have their own ideas on how things will go. If you are planning family photos or if you have ever had them done before, you know that kids basically run the show when it comes to what ultimately happens.
-
Pick an appropriate time. I often recommend sunrise if you can manage it because kids tend to be better first thing in the morning. I know it stinks for parents and anyone else who loves sleep. But I promise it’s worth it. Plus you will be all dressed and ready for the day and you can go have brunch after! If it’s not possible to do sunrise, pick a time of year when the sun doesn’t set too late (if it’s summer for example, the sun sets late and this may cause lost sleep for kiddos who go down early). Ask your photographer when the sun is setting for the date you have scheduled and try to find a time that works best for your kids.

Bring snacks and drinks. ‘Nuff said- i’m not above bribery or taking breaks to have a treat. Everyone needs a break anyway and snacks and stop a case of the hangeries.
-
Bring a favorite toy. Sometimes toys make it in the pictures- so make sure it is one you can live with. But sometimes having a comfort from home will help soothe little ones.
-
Embrace the moment. No one is happy and smiling all the time. Go with the flow and try to accept whatever mood your child is in. I will try different things to get smiles (i’m known to jump around like a nut and try to come up with fart jokes on the fly), but everyone will feel better if they are allowed some freedom to feel how they feel.
-
Do not use promises or punishments unless you are positive they will work. Making empty promises or issuing consequences during a session could just bring on tears. Try to hold off if you can. 😉

Just have fun and enjoy the process. Participate with your children and be present. Sessions go faster than you think and we will have so much fun along the way!
