Ashley Newman Photography
Breaking the mold and creating images that are intimate and YOU- these are the days before your new baby arrives and before everything changes. These are the little moments of love and connection that will be bringing your baby earthside. Document them in a real, undone, and unhurried way with a life-style maternity session in the comfort of your own home.
Indoor maternity photoshoots can happen in studio or in the comfort of your own home.
Here are my top tips for a successful, intimate maternity session.
Plan The Intimacy
I know it sounds and feels silly, but you have to plan it. Talk about your vision, talk about your expectations and really plan out what you want from the session. Approach your partner with openness and find out their comfort level. Decide what PDA feels right for you, and how you want to feel when you look back at the images. This is your love story- talk about it together.
Bonus tip: at the start of the session, begin with some ice breakers like asking what your hopes are for this new family you are building…or talk about how it felt when you knew you both felt the same way about each other…let the rest begin to unfold as your session continues.
Prepare Your Location
Pick a spot in your home that lends itself to intimacy. You do not have to have a model home to have pictures taken in your space. Typically when I do an in-home session, we end up carving out a small area or cleaning up a few distractions to make space for photos. Do not aim for perfection but rather look for nooks and opportunities. Look for light and comfort.
Prepare the space with soft music, lighting and tidying up the room. Set the mood by making the space comfortable for both of you.
Pick Your Outfits
Do you want to show more or less skin? Do you want casual or elevated? From boho flowy dresses, to casual camis and loose sweaters, the vibe of your shoot is set by what you wear. Check with your photographer to see what they suggest, and make sure to plan your outfits ahead of time.
No matter how you plan to document your pregnancy, plan it with your partner and discuss all your options with your photographer. Lifestyle photography doesn’t have to be outside, in nature…it can be an intimate, private moment in the comfort of your own home!
