Ashley Newman Photography
Fall family photos are a tradition for so many, and trying to plan for them can be stressful for anyone. Over the last 10 years, I have worked to make things easier for all my families by offering help with outfits, compiling lists of my favorite places to shop, offering styling guides and finding the best locations in and around the Houston-area.
With all these resources, it can bring you one step closer to feeling confident and prepared for your photos…until you arrive and actually have to do them.
That is why we are talking about posing today! It’s a hard topic for some- even scary when you have to consider getting in front of the camera. I’m hoping to take away the anxious edge with some of my favorite posing tips for a family of three.
Let’s dive into my favorite poses to try at your next session!
Snuggled Close
Always a favorite for a family of three, you can try this pose sitting or standing. It allows both you and your partner to love all over your sweet babe, and take advantage of some snuggles. Don’t forget to keep moving throughout this position- kiss your child, your partner or just pause to enjoy the embrace.
Hugs and Close Up
Naturally, your snuggled position gives plenty of space for hugs and interactions with your little one. This is the perfect opportunity for kisses, hugs, and details shots (my personal fave!). From this, think: eyelashes, chubby fingers and cheeks, and all the wonderful things you never want to forget. If true has been established with your child, it’s a great opportunity for individual portraits of them at this point too.
Both Parents
Now we are really moving through your session! It’s time to break away and focus on your individual relationships with your child! I love these moments because it really shows your connections.
Don’t Stress
At the end of the day, we will roll with the punches. If your kiddo is not having it- we will regroup and try something else. Need a break for a snack or water? Totally fine, let’s do it! Embrace whatever the mood is for the day and know that no matter how it feels, the photos always turn out better than you can imagine.
Bonus Tip: Save the best for last! Be sure you make time for you and your partner at the end of the session. It is all worthy of being captured!
