Your precious baby is turning a year old! That milestone still makes my heart go pitter-patter! The first year is a whirlwind of emotions, growth and sweet moments. Many families opt for a session to document the milestone, complete with a cake smash! However you decide to celebrate, make sure you capture it because it goes faster than you can even imagine.
Here are a few do’s and don’t’s of cake smashes, as well as a list of my favorite local bakeries!
Cake Smash Do’s and Don’t’s

DO- bring extra towels, baby wipes, and a change of clothing! Things can get messy fast!

DON’T- expect everything to go perfectly! It is a baby we are talking about after all. Sometimes the best laid plans don’t always work out and that is ok. Embrace your child’s mood no matter what and remember that it will end up better than it feels- promise!

DO- Make sure to plan ahead and prepare for anything. Most babies do really well with cake, but sometimes it can be a texture that ends up bothering them. Some children will cry when they touch cake and some love it. Some children will dive right in, while others don’t want to have anything to do with it.

DON’T- put too much pressure on the situation. This is all about celebrating your unique child!

DO- bring any decor you want to include, but try not to over do it. Simple themes are best.

DON’T- wait until the last minute. Many bakers schedules fill up quickly, so prepare in advance to secure the cake you want to coordinate with the photography date.
