Tips For Extended Family Photo Sessions

The season for family photos is upon us! The weather is nice and cooling off, and there is a sense of joy in the air (that is so so needed for 2020!!)
If you are like so many, you are thinking about Christmas cards and updating your family photos.
If you are wanting to do an extended family session, check out these tips to help make it go smoothly.

Book well in advance. A lot of the time family comes in last minute. We get it. But trying to plan a large session with only a few days or a week to get everything coordinated is just asking for trouble. Plus, it’s likely that local families have already snagged up several of the holiday spots. So grab them early!

Plan for a longer session. The more people that are part of the session, the longer it will take. Having experience with weddings, we know how to get through all the desired poses quickly, but there is also a lot going on and we never want you to feel rushed. Plus, we want to make sure there is time in between for the unposed and natural moments to be captured as well. 🙂 My favorite!

Let one person be in charge of coordinating outfits. Pick 2-3 colors, and let a few people wear patterns. That will vary things and help change it up, without everyone matching too much. If every family unit has a few of the same colors mixed in, your whole group will look coordinated and put together. Avoid matching.
